Vedanta Limited, an Indian multinational mining company headquartered in Mumbai, announced that its subsidiary, Western Cluster Limited (WCL), will launch iron ore mining operations in Liberia. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 8, 2022.

In 2011, WCL signed an agreement with the Government of Liberia on permission for iron ore mining in Liberia. However, because of the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic, the operations could not be started.
