Maersk suspends all transits through Red Sea & Gulf of Aden

Global shipping giant Maersk decided to suspend all shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden until further notice for the resumption.

Maersk stopped all transits through the Red Sea for 48 hours on Sunday as its Maersk Hangzhou was attacked by Houthi militants on December 30.

Maersk said in a statement on Tuesday that the investigation for the incident is ongoing. They will continue to pause all shipping transits through the area while further evaluating the changeable situation. The shipping company added that ships will be rerouted around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa in some cases.

The current global shipping market is facing a disruption of supply chains worldwide, which has increased freight costs and lengthened delivery times.
