In order to meet the higher demand for power following the expansion of the steel plant, state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited's Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP) announced that it has signed an agreement with power utility Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) last week.

According to the company, DVC will supply an additional 250 MVA (megavolt amperes) of power to the Bokaro steel plant in addition to the existing 220 MVA power supply agreement.

SAIL plans to expand its crude steel production to about 35.65 million tons from the existing 19.51 million tons annually. As part of the project, crude steel production capacity at Bokaro Steel Plant will be increased to 7.03 million tons from the current 4.6 million tons annually.
