Freight rates on South American routes soar greatly

Container shipping prices are on the rise due to various factors. The Red Sea crisis has strained shipping capacity, leading companies to suspend sailings, further driving up rates. Container shortages have worsened the situation. Additionally, increased demand for cargo transportation, particularly in South America, South Africa, and West Africa, has propelled prices upward.

The latest Shanghai Container Freight Index (SCFI) confirms increases across all major routes, with South American routes experiencing the most significant surge. Freight rates from Shanghai to South American basic ports have doubled since January, marking a 130.47% increase. This uptick in prices reflects the challenges faced by the global shipping industry, prompting companies to adapt to changing market dynamics.
