General Motors Company has reported its highest quarterly sales in the U.S. in over three years, driven by substantial gains in full-size pickup trucks and electric vehicles (EVs). The automaker sold about 696,000 units in Q2, a 0.6% year-over-year increase, marking the best performance since Q4 of 2020.

EV deliveries surged 40% year over year to nearly 22,000 units, representing 3.2% of total Q2 sales. This increase was led by the electric Hummer, which saw sales jump to 2,900 units from just 47 units a year earlier. The LYRIQ also made significant strides, with a 26% increase in Q2 sales compared to Q1.

Full-size pickup truck sales were robust, with approximately 229,000 units sold, up 6% year over year and the highest quarterly sales since 2021.

Despite these successes, GM's total sales for the first half of the year were down 0.4% year over year, totaling around 1.3 million vehicles. GM plans to release eight new or redesigned SUVs by year-end. However, the recent ransomware attack on dealer software provider CDK Global has caused disruptions, potentially delaying some deliveries until Q3. Despite this, dealers are striving to meet high customer demand.
