Malaysia's automobile production and sales in the first half of the year were about 392,000 and 390,000 units, up by 8% and 7% year on year, respectively. The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has positively forecasted its domestic vehicle sales in 2024 to rise from 740,000 units to 765,000 units.

The market is now expected to decline by only 4% compared to nearly 800,000 units in 2023. This is attributed to the country's resilient economy, stable interest rates, and strong order backlogs, particularly for A segment passenger cars at domestic automakers Proton and Perodua.
