Panama Canal increases ship transits with early rainy season

2 Aug 2024 13:33 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
The Panama Canal Authority announced an increase in daily ship transits due to an early start to the rainy season. From August 5, the daily limit will rise to 35 ships, with the number expected to reach 36 per day by September.

The canal had previously faced severe drought conditions in 2023, leading to a reduction in daily transits to 25 and causing significant delays, with some ships waiting up to 21 days.

Since March 2024, the canal has managed an average of 27 ships per day. If current rainfall continues, authorities hoped to restore normal operations of 39-40 ships per day by 2025.
