Turkey's scrap imports grow in Jan-Sep y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of nearly 15 million tons of scrap in the first nine months of 2024, up by 5.3% compared to the same period in the previous year.

Among them, imports from the EU accounted for the largest share at 66%, totaling around 9.8 million tons, rising by 10% year on year. The supply from North America occupied 24%, totaling 3.6 million tons. Imports from other regions were less than 10% of the share.

In September alone, Turkey's scrap imports totaled approximately 1.4 million tons, a month-on-month decrease of over 25% and a year-on-year increase of 35%.
