EU’s FuelEU Maritime Regulation fully applicable on Jan 1, 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, the EU’s FuelEU Maritime Regulation will fully apply, promoting renewable fuels and clean energy for ships to decarbonize the maritime sector. It sets targets to reduce greenhouse gas intensity in the EU and European Economic Area (EEA) shipping, starting with a 2% reduction in 2025 and reaching 80% by 2050.

European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) supports this with technical expertise and updates to the THETIS-MRV reporting platform.

Articles 8 and 9, requiring monitoring plans, have been effective since August 31, 2024.

The platform is prepared for compliance, with further updates planned for partial FuelEU emission reports during company transfers.
