Trump's tariff increase proposal could raise prices on everyday goods for US shoppers

US shoppers may soon face higher prices on everyday goods as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to announce new import tariffs. Sneakers, T-shirts, beer, and other household items, often sourced from China, Mexico, and Canada, could see price hikes if the proposed levies, ranging from 10% to 60%, are implemented.

These tariffs, aimed at boosting US manufacturing and job creation, could significantly impact household budgets. Experts warned that retailers are likely to pass added costs on to consumers.

Industry leaders remain uncertain about the scope of the tariffs. The breadth of the impact could be enormous, said Brett House, a Columbia economist. Companies are bracing for potential changes and awaiting clearer details from Trump's administration.
