Turkey’s port cargo drops in Apr y-o-y

Turkey’s ports handled about 43.65 million tons of cargo in April 2025, marking a 3.2% year on year decline, according to the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs. Despite the drop, cumulative cargo volume from January to April rose 1.4% to 181.9 million tons compared to the same period in 2024.

Foreign trade cargo traffic saw a 3.7% year-on-year decline in April, with exports down by 5.7% to around 11.36 million tons and imports falling by 2.7% to about 21.77 million tons. Transit cargo dropped by 10.4%, while domestic cabotage traffic increased by 10.4%, reaching about 5.09 million tons.

Container traffic totaled 1.1 million TEUs in April, a 3.0% annual decrease. However, foreign trade container movements rose 4% to 822,000 TEUs. Export containers jumped 6.4%, and imports grew 1.9%. Conversely, transit container traffic fell 21.4% to about 207,000 TEUs, and domestic cabotage containers declined 12.3%, totaling 68,000 TEUs.
