JISF: Japan’s steel exports slide in H1 2025

According to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), in the first half of this year, Japan’s steel exports amounted to approximately 15.3 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%.

Among them, exports to Thailand accounted for the largest proportion, totaling 2.1 million tons, rising by 2% year on year. South Korea ranked second with about 1.9 million tons, a year-on-year reduction of 21%. Exports to China and Taiwan were around 1.2 million tons and 1.1 million tons, down by 18% and up by 17% year on year, respectively.

In June alone, Japan exported around 2.5 million tons of steel products, slightly dropping by 0.2% compared to the previous month and by 3% from the same month a year ago.
