Ford makes investment in revamping Kentucky plant for EV production

14 Aug 2025 13:21 reported by Stanley Wang

Ford Motor Co. will invest nearly US$2 billion to retool its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky for electric vehicle production. The facility, which has produced gas-powered vehicles for 70 years, will manufacture a midsize, four-door electric pickup truck starting in 2027 for domestic and international markets.

The revamped plant will use a universal EV platform to cut costs and speed assembly, reducing parts by 20%, fasteners by 25%, workstations by 40%, and assembly time by 15%. The transformation will deliver affordable, profitable EVs and modernize US manufacturing, even as federal incentives for electric vehicles are being rolled back.
