China files WTO case against Canadian restrictions on steel imports

China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has filed a complaint against Canada at the WTO over Canada’s import restrictions on steel and other products.

A spokesman from MOFCOM said the lawsuit is in response to the complaint that Canada imposed steel tariff rate quotas and discriminatory tariffs on products that consisted of so-called Chinese steel components. Those measures are unilateral and protectionist, which damage China’s legitimate rights and interests, as well as disrupting the related supply chains.

China made a firm opposition to those measures and urged Canada to take immediate actions to correct those practices, enhancing the multilateral trading system and advancing both countries’ economic and trade relations.
