U.S. Steel announced that its Edgar Thomson Steel Works in Braddock will receive a new hot strip mill. This upgrade is part of a US$14 billion investment package by its new owner, Nippon Steel.

This new investment marks billions of dollars in renovation for the Mon Valley facilities. U.S. Steel spokesperson Amanda Malkowski said permit filings for the new mill are expected in early 2026.

Nippon Steel, which acquired U.S. Steel for nearly US$15 billion, previously committed US$2.4 billion specifically to the Mon Valley Works by 2028.

The company is seeking to generate an additional US$3 billion in annual adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) through these capital investments and operational improvements.
