New car registrations in the European Union rose by 1.4% year on year to around 8.97 million units from January to October 2025. The volume marked a fourth consecutive month of growth, but it remained below pre-pandemic levels.

Among them, battery electric vehicles accounted for 16.4% of the market, with about 1.47 registrations, up from 13.2% a year earlier. Hybrid vehicles retained the largest share at 34.6%, totaling nearly 3.11 million units, supported by growth in Spain, France, Germany, and Italy. Plug-in hybrid registrations reached about 819,000 units, driven by strong gains in major markets, including a 109.6% surge in Spain, raising their EU market share to 9.1%. Petrol and diesel vehicles saw their combined market share fall to 36.6% from 46.3% last year.
