South Africa’s DTIC collecting comments on proposed suspension of scrap metal exports

Ebrahim Patel, Minister of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) of South Africa has proposed to issue a notice that South Africa’s export of certain ferrous and non-ferrous waste and scrap metal should be temporarily suspended for a period of nine months. The nine-month temporary suspension also includes the price preference system related to the above-mentioned scrap metals.

The DTIC is seeking comments and submissions from interested parties on the proposal, all of which must be submitted to the director-general of the DTIC by no later than May 29, 2023.
