The Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition of South Africa has decided to extend restrictions on ferrous and non-ferrous waste and scrap metal exports for six months until mid-December. The ban was first introduced in November 2022.

The export ban includes ferrous scrap, remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel, and copper waste and scrap. The waste and scrap of stainless steel and ferrous waste and scrap generated in the ordinary course of business as a by-product of a manufacturing process is excepted.
