Companhia Siderúrgica do Cuchi (CSC), a steel company in Angola, has officially launched the country’s first green pig iron plant. With the plant, Angola becomes the world’s fourth iron exporting country, with a daily production capacity of 250 tons.

Rui Celso, the president of the Board of Directors of CSC, said that the plant covers an area of 62,500 hectares, of which 2,500 hectares are for manufacturing and the remaining area is for forestry to ensure environmental sustainability.

The first blast furnace has been installed, with a yearly production capacity of 100,000 tons of pig iron.

The integrated project is divided into two phases. The first phase has been already completed and started trial production on May 1, 2023, with an investment of US$90 million. The second phase is expected to start in the second half of 2024, and three more blast furnaces will be installed with a production capacity of 140,000 tons per year each, with an estimated investment of US$260 million.
