Rio Tinto reaches agreement with AtkinsRéalis on developing high-grade iron ore deposit

21 Dec 2023 14:40 reported by Yolanda Wang

A A A
Rio Tinto has appointed AtkinsRéalis as delivery partner for a mining project in Guinea that hosts the world's largest undeveloped high-grade iron ore deposit. The two parties have signed a contract to provide project and construction management as well as contract management services for the Simandou mining project in the mountainous Kankan region.

The Simandou mine contains the last-known, largest, and richest undeveloped high-grade iron ore deposit in the world, which can be used to produce steel and reduce emissions.

The project is AtkinsRéalis’ largest mining project in the last decade and the first mining project the company has delivered as an integrated delivery partner.
