Angola plans to maintain its current oil production until at least 2027

21 Mar 2024 17:17 reported by Margaret Yeh

A A A
Angola, Africa's second-largest exporter of crude oil, is currently producing approximately 1.1 million barrels per day, a level similar to what it was producing before it left the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The country expects to maintain this production level at least until 2027. Angola exited OPEC at the end of 2023 due to a disagreement over its output quota. However, the country's secretary of state for oil and gas stated that there is still cooperation between OPEC and Angola, and the possibility of Angola returning to OPEC remains open.

Angola is satisfied with an oil price ranging between US$85 and US$90 per barrel, considering it beneficial for both producers and buyers. Additionally, Angola is exploring the possibility of developing a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility if its block 24 field has sufficient reserves. The goal would be to use as much natural gas as possible for local steel and petrochemical manufacturing rather than solely exporting it as LNG.
