Sumitomo Corporation, an integrated trading company in Japan, reported that the nickel production in the Ambatovy project in Madagascar reached 8,000 tons in the second quarter of 2024, rising by 6.7% compared to the previous quarter due to increased mills’ operating rates, while the figure dropping by 20% from the same quarter a year ago due to utility plant issues.

Among the production, the output of self-owned refined nickel production accounted for 4,100 tons, and the output from South Korea’s resources was 3,900 tons.

Production in the second half of the year is expected to resume after production facility issues are resolved and the cost is reduced. Output is predicted to reach 35,000 tons in 2024.
