Turkey increases scrap imports in Oct, US supplies the most

2 Dec 2024 15:13 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
In October, Turkey's scrap imports rose by 2.8% compared to the previous month, reaching 1.47 million tons. This growth was primarily driven by the expansion of new steel production capacity, which boosted demand for scrap.

During the period, the US was Turkey's largest supplier, exporting around 462,000 tons of scrap, a year-on-year increase of 20%. The Netherlands ranked second with about 196,000 tons, though this represented a 22% decrease compared to the same month last year. Imports from the UK surged threefold year on year to 164,000 tons.

Due to falling prices and weak sales of rebars, Turkey's scrap imports were expected to decline in November.
