Turkey’s scrap imports grow in Jan-Oct y-o-y

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of roughly 16.4 million tons of scrap in the first ten months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%. The import value rose by 8% year on year, reaching US$8.9 billion.

Among them, the supply from the US was the most, totaling roughly 3.87 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 6.7%. The Netherlands and the UK ranked second and third, with roughly 2.23 million tons and 1.77 million tons, respectively.

In October alone, Turkey’s scrap imports amounted to roughly 1.5 million tons, up by 2% compared to the previous month and down by 2% from the same month a year ago.
