Minera Los Pelambres, a copper mine operator under Antofagasta Minerals, planned to extend its copper mine operations until 2051, investing US$2 billion and creating 4,000 jobs.

The project will expand desalination capacity to rely on seawater and recirculated water, reducing environmental impact and addressing local water scarcity.

Minera Los Pelambres, contributing 25% of the regional GDP and 70% of exports, will use existing infrastructure for tailings disposal and avoid affecting ecosystems. Besides, the company also protects over 27,000 hectares of wild areas, supporting biodiversity in Chile's central region.
