Brazil exports less ferrous scrap in Dec 2024

According to statistics from the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Brazil's ferrous scrap exports totaled around 42,700 tons in December last year, falling by 5.7% compared to the previous month and by 34% from the same month in 2023.

Full-year 2024 exports fell 13.7% year on year to around 691,000 tons, with India receiving 56%, Bangladesh 18%, and Belgium 4.9% of shipments.

In terms of imports, the volume in December was 1,700 tons, a month-on-month drop of 18.8% and a year-on-year increase of 64%. Total imports in 2024 declined by 4.7% year on year roughly 17,600 tons. Bolivia and Germany each supplied 22%, followed by the Netherlands’ 12% and Mexico’s 10%.
