Turkey’s iron ore imports rise in Jan-Nov 2024, with increased import value

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported approximately 9.08 million tons of iron ore in the first 11 months of last year, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. The total value of these imports was around US$1.1 billion, reflecting a year-on-year rise of 14%.

Brazil was the largest supplier, providing about 4.69 million tons, a 1.8% decrease from the previous year. It was followed by Ukraine with 1.1 million tons and Sweden with 990,000 tons.

In November alone, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled roughly 268,000 tons, which represented a 60% decrease from the previous month and a 63% decline compared to the same month in 2023. The import value also fell, dropping by 56% month on month and by 63% year on year to US$31.4 million.
