Antapaccay is the seventh-largest copper mine in Peru, and also the world's third-biggest copper producer. The local community members blocked the way to Glencore's Antapaccay copper mine to protest the site's expansion plan. The community leader Flavio Huanque said local residents asked to meet with government mining officials as they are afriad that there will be environmental damage due to the expansion plan.

In fact, Antapaccay encountered protests by local residents over environmental issues in the past years as well. Peru's Mining Ministry said that they had met with Glencore management, and they will supervise their expansion plans.
