Turkey posts sharp decreases in iron ore imports in Jan-Feb

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of approximately 1.1 million tons of iron ore in the first two months, a 32% decrease compared to the same period a year earlier. The total value of these imports was around US$128 million, a year-on-year fall of 45%.

Brazil was the largest supplier, providing about 737,000 tons, a 21% decrease from the previous year. It was followed by Sweden’s 166,000 tons and Russia’s 85,000 tons.

In February alone, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled roughly 344,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 57% and a year-on-year drop of 67%. The import value also fell, dropping by 65% month on month and by 77% year on year to around US$33 million.
