Turkey’s pig iron imports fall in Q1 y-o-y

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of around 447,000 tons of pig iron in the first quarter of this year, falling by 1.4% compared to the year-ago level. The value generated by these imports was US$164 million, a year-on-year drop of 16%.

In March alone, Turkey’s pig iron imports surge by 343% month on month and rising by 39% year on year, reaching approximately 235,000 tons. The import value also grew significantly by 314% from the preceding month and hiked by 14% year on year to US$83 million.
