Tharisa's chrome ore production & sales decline in H1 FY25

2 Jun 2025 16:05 reported by Eva Chen

According to data from Tharisa plc, a South African mining company, the total production of chrome in the first half of the fiscal year 2025 totaled 755,400 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.7%. The main reason for the decline in production was due to rainstorms and weather factors.

From October to December 2024, the production of chrome ore was 374,400 tons, and from January to March 2025, the production was 381,000 tons.

In the first half of the fiscal year 2025, the total sales volume of chrome ore was 813,400 tons, a decrease of 11.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, but export orders remained high. Despite the rebound in chrome ore prices since December 2024, the demand for chrome ore in China and Indonesia remains strong.

Tharisa may be concerned about the impact of global trade market uncertainty on PGMs (platinum group metals) and chrome, but the target production of chrome for the entire fiscal year 2025 remains unchanged at 1.65-1.8 million tons.
