TUIK: Turkey’s scrap imports fall in Jan-Apr

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of roughly 6.6 million tons of scrap in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 4%. The import value slid by 16% year on year, reaching US$2.5 billion.

Among them, the supply from the Netherlands was the most, totaling roughly 1.17 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 18%. The US and the UK ranked second and third, with roughly 1.06 million tons and 685,000 tons, respectively.

In April alone, Turkey’s scrap imports amounted to roughly 1.9 million tons, up by 13% compared to the previous month and by 24% from the same month a year ago. The import value increased by 9% month on month and by 16% year on year to US$720 million.
