ArcelorMittal has opened a new iron ore concentrator in Liberia as part of its US$1.8 billion expansion project in the country. The plant, with a 20 million ton capacity, is among Africa's largest iron ore beneficiation facilities and will boost production from 5 million to 20 million tons annually.

This expansion also upgrades ore quality to higher-grade, higher-value ore. Supporting infrastructure improvements include railway upgrades and a new pier at Buchanan Port.

ArcelorMittal is also planning a further expansion to reach 30 million tons per year, with studies underway for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI)-grade concentrate production.
