Brazil's ferrous scrap exports in upward trend in May

According to statistics from the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Brazil's ferrous scrap exports reached around 86,000 tons in May, up by 26% from the previous month and by 62% from the same month a year ago.

In the first five months of this year, cumulative exports amounted to around 334,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 21%. India was the primary destination, accounting for 62% of deliveries, followed by Bangladesh’s 12% and Belgium’s 4.4%.

In terms of imports, Brazil's ferrous scrap import volume was 1,250 tons in May, a slight month-on-month increase of 1.6% but a year-on-year decline of 8%. The total imports in the January-May period were nearly 5,100 tons, of which Germany and Spain were the leading suppliers.
