Worldsteel: Global pig iron production falls in May y-o-y

According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global pig iron production amounted to 107.6 million tons in May, falling by 2.6% compared to the same month a year ago.

Among them, Asia contributed more than 85% of the total output, despite declines in China, Japan, and South Korea. However, output from India grew by 7.64% in May.

European output plummeted, with France down by 40.7%, Germany dropping by 9.8%, and the UK falling by 64.5%. However, Italy had a jump of 64.3%. Conversely, Brazil and South Africa had production growth.

In the first five months of this year, global pig iron output amounted to approximately 529.8 million tons, sliding by 0.8% year on year.
