Brazil’s pig iron producer SDS Siderúrgica is investing R$100 million to expand operations in Minas Gerais, opening a new industrial plant in Divinópolis on July 15. This new unit will produce up to 12,000 tons of pig iron per month and create 180 direct jobs.

The company currently operates a plant in Sete Lagoas, producing up to 14,000 tons of pig iron monthly, with 70% exported to overseas markets, mainly the US and Germany. The Divinópolis plant will initially produce cast iron but will soon shift to special nodular pig iron.

According to President Frederico Silva, this expansion will not only nearly double production but also raise the annual revenue from R$600 million to around R$1 billion by 2026.
