China's iron ore imports reached a new yearly peak of 106 million tons in June, a year-on-year increase of 8.54%. This growth was mainly driven by record-breaking steel exports, with steel shipments reaching 30.7 million tons in the second quarter, up by 11% year on year. Semi-finished steel exports alone jumped over 300% in the first five months of 2025.

Besides, China's rare earth exports continued their upward trend in June, climbing to 7,742 tons, a 32.4% increase from May and a 60% rise from the same month a year ago, reaching levels not seen since 2009.

Customs data also revealed China's overall imports grew by 2.3% year on year in June, the first rise since February this year. Exports in June increased by 5.2% year on year.
