EU's ferrous scrap exports fall to 8.11 million tons in H1 2025

EU ferrous scrap exports to third countries dropped by 0.9% year on year to 8.11 million tons in the first half of 2025. Turkey was the top buyer, taking 70% (5.57 million tons, up by 15.3% year on year). Egypt (564,100 tons, down by 45% year on year), India (482,200 tons, up by 0.6% year on year), and Pakistan (250,000 tons, down by 18.7% year on year) followed, with the four accounting for 85% of EU exports.

In June alone, the EU's ferrous scrap exports hit a 10-month low at 1.09 million tons (down by 4.4% month on month and by 6.9% year on year). Turkey still led June imports (up by 28.1% year on year), while others fell. 

The Netherlands was the top EU exporter in the first half of this year, exporting 1.88 million tons, up by 43% year on year. Belgium ranked second with 1.23 million tons, down by 4.4% year on year.
