Indonesia shortens mining quota validity to one year to support commodity prices

14 Oct 2025 15:42 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
Indonesia announced that it had shortened the validity of mining production quotas from three years to one in an effort to better control output and support prices of commodities such as coal and nickel.

Quotas for 2025 remain valid, but miners must reapply for quotas previously issued for 2026 and 2027. Companies are required to submit RKAB proposals, which specify requested mining amounts, between October 1 and November 15 each year.

The coal miners’ association APBI expressed hope that the shorter timeline for 2026 RKAB submissions would not disrupt operations, citing the importance of business certainty, investment, and contract fulfillment. Under the new rules, miners must also provide proof of funds for land rehabilitation before securing RKAB approval.
