Australian mining company BHP reported a slight decrease in total first-quarter iron ore production for the fiscal year 2026, which fell by 1% year on year to 64.1 million tons. Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) output was the main factor, decreasing to around 62 million tons, down by 2% compared to the same period a year ago.

Despite the quarterly drop, the company maintained its iron ore production guidance for fiscal year 2026, unchanged between 258 million tons and 269 million tons. The guidance for WAIO is also flat at 284 million tons to 296 million tons.

In contrast, BHP’s total copper production for the quarter had a 4% year-on-year increase, reaching about 494,000 tons. The company also maintained its copper production guidance for the fiscal year 2026 at 1.8 million tons to 2 million tons.
