Indonesian companies protest as government moves to impose coal export duties

9 Dec 2025 16:37 reported by Ellen Huang

A A A
The Indonesian government will impose an export tax on coal from 2026, which has brought up protests from some related enterprises.

The finance minister said it is understandable that the market players would protest for this new imposition, but the coal mine industry’s royalties are relatively low compared to other mines like gasoline and natural gas.

This measure is expected to prompt market participants to adjust their pricing and export strategies.
