Brazil’s iron ore exports hit new record in 2025

According to statistics from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC), Brazil’s iron ore exports rose by 7.1% year on year in 2025, reaching an unprecedented 416.4 million tons. This performance represents the first time the nation’s annual shipments exceeded the 400-million-ton threshold. Statistics showed that strong production from Vale, particularly during the third quarter, drove the growth.

Export activity peaked toward the end of the year, with October and December volumes each surpassing 40 million tons. This surge reflected a significant recovery since the 2019 tailings dam disaster curtailed output.

China remains the primary destination, as its record-breaking import needs continue to sustain Brazilian trade. With supply chains operating at high capacity, Brazil has now surpassed its previous 2018 record.
