Post-holiday coal prices gain support amid tight supply

26 Feb 2026 15:20 reported by Ranny Fang

During the Lunar New Year holiday, downstream demand weakened, and power plant consumption dropped sharply. However, limited inflows led to continued inventory declines at Bohai Rim ports. As trading activity nearly stalled, many traders held cargoes, waiting for clearer market signals after the holiday. With businesses gradually resuming operations, coal deliveries are recovering, and price trends are becoming clearer.

Market participants noted that prices have found a bottom, supported by falling port inventories and tight import supply, particularly from Indonesia. While some caution that demand recovery remains uncertain, most expect coal prices to stay firm in the near term.
