Teck Resources & Korea Zinc agree to higher 2026 zinc processing fees

Teck Resources reached an agreement with Korea Zinc Co. to raise processing fees for zinc concentrates in 2026. The company is taking advantage of price surges in silver and germanium, which are vital components for chipmaking. Smelting treatment charges have risen to $85 per ton this year.

This move is in line with Teck’s transition toward low-carbon metals. By divesting its metallurgical coal business and completing recent mergers, the company now focuses primarily on copper and zinc. These structural changes reflect a commitment to essential commodities in the basic materials sector.

Teck continues to develop major assets like the Quebrada Blanca 2 mine to increase its production capacity and market presence.
