Almonty Industries, a global mining company specializing in tungsten mining and exploration, recently finished Phase 1 commissioning at the Sangdong Tungsten Mine in Gangwon Province, South Korea, ending a 30-year production halt.

The facility currently processes about 640,000 tons of ore annually to produce 2,300 tons of tungsten concentrate. An expansion in 2027 is expected to double this output, potentially meeting 40% of global tungsten demand outside China.

The project transitions to commercial operations following an investment of more than $100 million since 2015. This redevelopment includes four kilometers of underground tunnels and advanced Metso processing equipment.

With an ore grade triple the global average, Sangdong possesses a projected mine life exceeding 45 years. As a major source for high-grade tungsten trioxide (WO₃), the site utilizes modern underground mining and advanced monitoring systems.
