Interpipe supplies railway wheels for Arctic iron ore transport operations

Ukrainian steel pipe and railway product manufacturer Interpipe has delivered specialized railway wheels for freight trains operating beyond the Arctic Circle.

The wheels will be used to transport iron ore from mining sites in northern Sweden, where conditions involve extreme cold and heavy axle loads. The company developed a modified version of its ULT 25 LL (Long Life) wheel design, tailored for harsh Arctic environments. These wheels feature a diameter of 920 mm, support axle loads of up to 25 tons, and can operate in temperatures as low as -40°C.

These wheels are deployed on the Malmbanan railway, linking the Kiruna mining region with the Norwegian port of Narvik.

The project underscores the importance of high-performance railway components in demanding mining logistics.
