Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) executed an initial investment of MYR 14 million in Taiyo Koko Malaysia Sdn Bhd on March 25, 2026.

This funding supports the construction of a new refinery in the Gebeng Industrial Estate, Pahang. The facility will extract vanadium pentoxide and molybdenum oxide from spent petroleum catalysts, utilizing technology developed by Taiyo Koko over four decades.

Once operational, the refined vanadium will be shipped to Japan for processing into ferrovanadium and other essential materials for special steels. Vanadium is a vital component for high-strength structural steel, tools, and aerospace alloys.

This project represents Taiyo Koko's first overseas expansion of its refining expertise and aims to secure a stable resource supply chain for Japanese industrial sectors.
