Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has approved a 2026 coal production quota of 580 million tons, close to its 600 million ton target.

The authority noted that a small number of companies are still completing documentation, while those pending approval must temporarily halt mining following the end of a transitional policy on March 31.

The government retains a mechanism to adjust quotas to balance state revenue, domestic energy needs, and market stability, though details remain unclear.

For nickel, the approved production quota under the 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) is estimated at 190-200 million tons, with final approvals nearing completion.

Officials emphasized that any future quota adjustments will depend on supply-demand conditions to avoid price volatility.
