Rising imports challenge Taiwan's stainless steel pricing power

15 May 2026 15:57 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Taiwan's stainless steel trade volumes and prices fell in April. Export quantities dropped to 63,331 tons, falling by 10.4% compared to March. Although the average export valuation dipped, it stayed above the NT$80,000 level for the second consecutive month.

In April, import volumes remained high at 103,057 tons despite a slight monthly decline. The average import price also decreased from the level in the previous month.

Local mills face growing operational pressure as rising import resources create resistance against domestic price increases. Market participants said that the combination of shrinking export demand and high import levels created a challenging environment for steel producers. These market conditions may limit the ability of factories to sustain higher price points in the coming months.
