Brazil’s crude steel production hikes in Dec 2024 y-o-y

According to data from the Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), the nation's crude steel production totaled approximately 2.6 million tons in December last year, reflecting a 1.8% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.

During this period, Brazil's production of rolled steel remained stable at around 1.6 million tons. The output of long products rose by 14% year on year to 645,000 tons, while the production of flat products fell by 7.2% year on year to roughly 1 million tons.

Besides, Brazil's steel imports dropped by 36.5% year on year, reaching 324,000 tons, while exports saw a decrease of 10.4% year on year, totaling 753,000 tons.

In 2024, Brazil's crude steel production was approximately 33.74 million tons, up by 5.3% year on year. Steel imports increased by 18% to 5.9 million tons, while steel exports decreased by 18% to 9.6 million tons, both in comparison to the previous year.
